Iyengar Yoga

In the Iyengar system the Level I and II asanas present the basics of form, function, philosophy and psychology of yoga. These asanas are the standing and seated forward bends and twists. Cultivating awareness, preparing the body structure for strength and alignment and improving health are the benefits.

The Level III and IV classes build on the basics and introduce more inversions, greater subtly in understanding body and mind and the practice of pranayama. Some of these asanas are headstand, handstand, peacock and shoulder stand.
